It is a huge step up from relying upon personal experience or expert opinion, both of which can be riddled with bias. But put them together, and you have objective information in addition to practical wisdom to solve real world problems.

Assessment tells you where you stand, so you know how far and in which direction you have to go to reach your goals. For academic testing, job performance, medical evaluations, fitness testing, or conducting your own study, gaining accurate information and knowing what it means are essential.

Statistical tools are invaluable for analyzing information to find the answers you seek. But you have to choose the correct statistics and know how to interpret your results.
