Dr. Denise K. Wood, President of ADVISER Strategies, realized the benefits research thinking during graduate school when she was a world class track and field athlete and coach at The University of Tennessee.
Sports Training Adviser Bio
She was inspired to more clearly understand how to improve sport performance, as well as to make sense of the apparent disconnects between research studies and athletics. She earned her doctorate in exercise science with a concentration in research design and statistical analysis during the peak years of her athletic career.
In addition to her skills in making sound training decisions in sports training, Dr. Wood's expertise in research and assessment opened many doors in education, business, and health sciences during her career pursuits in teaching, administration, and entrepreneurial business ventures.
As Director of Research and Assessment and professor in higher education, Dr. Wood taught and guided formal applied research projects for hundreds of working adult students, helping them solve problems in a variety of work settings.
Her collaboration with managers and leaders, employers, and other colleagues as Dean and Vice President in higher education resulted in many successes in local schools and businesses and built many alliances throughout the region.
As a leader and executive administrator, Dr. Wood came to realize that effective strategic planning and evaluation for colleges and organizations is much the same as for successful sports training. Her visionary leadership and ability to measure progress toward short-term and long-term goals have been the key drivers for creating positive change in organizations, as well as for achieving compliance with accreditation standards.
