Summative Assessment

Summative assessment is commonly used in education to determine how well students have mastered concepts at the end of a course or program. This type of evaluation helps teachers identify the extent to which instructional goals and student learning outcomes have been met.



These types of evaluations can shape how educators design and revise their curricula and what type of courses schools offer. Teaching effectiveness may also be evaluated at the end of the year.

These evaluations are usually norm-referenced tests that compare groups using standard scores.
